MacStumbler
MacStumbler is a utility to display information about nearby 802.11b and 802.11g wireless access points. It is mainly designed to be a tool to help find access points while traveling, or to diagnose wireless network problems. Additionally, MacStumbler can be used for “wardriving”, which involves co-ordinating with a GPS unit while traveling around to help produce a map of all access points in a given area.
Pac Manhattan
Pac-Manhattan is a large-scale urban game that utilizes the New York City grid to recreate the 1980’s video game sensation Pac-Man. This analog version of Pac-man is being developed in NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications graduate program, in order to explore what happens when games are removed from their “little world” of tabletops, televisions and computers and placed in the larger “real world” of street corners, and cities.

FreeCache
FreeCache works by moving content “hot spots” on the web closer to users. This provides several advantages to various parties involved: Users get faster downloads, content providers pay less for Internet-bound traffic, and ISPs pay less for Internet-originating traffic.
Reversed Led Zeppelin
brain found a reverse clip of Stairway to Heaven and reverse mapped the sounds to confirm an old rumor about secret messages in the song. I thought he just had too much time on his hands, but he might have really found something.
Adium
A multiple protocol instant messaging client. This is a culmination of a year long rewrite of adium, which now utilizes libgaim (the core part of gaim) to connect to multiple protocols, and is also based on a new plugin architecture. Partial address book integration, cool looking tabs, multiple protocols for instant messaging, and a compact contact list are some of the many features of the new Adium X. Give it a try; we’re sure you will like it.
Freecycle
Freecycle Network is made up of many individual groups across the globe. It’s a grassroots movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns.
Garment Bags
For my recent 29th birthday my Mom got me the perfect present, a generous gift certificate to REI. Now, I’m a self-admitted bag whore (the first step is admitting you have a problem), so I found it a little weird when Alexis agreed that my weekend bag was torn to shreds and I needed a new one. Her ulterior motive of course was that I had this shiny new gift certificate to pay for it.
So I wander by REI today to poke around and see if there’s anything I like. Before I even realized it, I found myself looking at garment bags. I mean, COME ON, garment bags!?! Sheesh, have I gotten that old already?!?
End result, nothing suitable (not even in the garment bags). Oh, did I mention I’m a picky bag whore?
One Year Blogging
I got Moveable Type up and running late one night one year ago today (creative title). Since then I’ve put up 348 entries, had 120 comments, and almost 79,000 page views (just this year!).
The single biggest question I get from people is, “what does blog^2 mean?” When I chose it I was just playing around with blogging for the first time and most of what I was writing was about the technical aspects, so it was “a blog about blogging”, or blog-squared. Now though, since I see “blog^2: Blah” on so many Google searches, I hesitate to change the name!
It’s been fun! Probably won’t be working so late tonight though since we’ll be excavating in the back yard all day, wheeeee!
