A Friend Survey Worth Asking
A group of friends have been forwarding around a pretty inane survey in email which is supposed to teach you “a lot of little-known facts about those who know you.” The questions are either so obvious (I already know what hair color my friends have) or pointless (”Ford or Chevy?”…who cares!) that there’s nothing that’s either new or useful information. OK, at least Alexis found it interesting that WES LIKES TULIPS, but this thing didn’t even have the classic question “Ginger or Mary-Anne?”
So, I started thinking of a survey that would be worth asking, something with simple questions that can reveal a lot about my friends.
- When the weekend comes, do you look forward to seeing everyone, or seeing absolutely no-one?
- What life change (different kind of work, new place to live, new people) would you most like to make if you weren’t absolutely terrified of doing it?
- How often do you steal? Yearly, monthly, or every damn day. (Cable, music, and computer software all count)
- Does holding a gun make you feel powerful, or scared?
- Is there anyone in this world whom you actively hate?
- Ever had any group-sex activities?
- Ever had any same-sex activities?
- Ever had any animal-sex activities?
- Ever thought about it?
- When did you last try something completely and totally new?
The key characteristic here is that NO-ONE WOULD ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS OVER EMAIL! If a question was interesting enough to ask, then anyone who put their private answers down in a permanent medium is either stupid, lying, or boring.
heh, would you really want to know if any of your friends had had animal-sex activities?
most of those questions i _would_ answer over email. maybe i wouldn’t talk about my sexlife depending on the venue, but other than possibly incriminating yourself re: stealing, why wouldn’t you answer the other questions over email?
Too bad you don’t allow HTML in your comments.
1) I look forward to getting things done on the weekend. I would prefer to see my friends… but sometimes that is not possible.
2) I would like to be either a corporate raider in NY or a warlord in Africa. I believe I could do either of those things successfully. The personal costs in either of those changes should be pretty obvious.
3) Recently I haven’t stolen anything… for music it’s more a matter of obscure taste than one of ethics. I have no mainstream music mp3s anymore; I have deleted all of them.
4) A gun is simply a tool for me. It happens to be a tool for killing things, which is not something I have to do often, if ever.
5) I hate a lot of public figures for their irresponsibility and general disdain for the rest of humanity. I would consider it a service to mankind if something were to happen to them and wouldn’t feel sympathy for them at all. That being said, I am by policy a pacifist and would never hurt someone directly and intentionally. Although I might think about aiding them in hurting themselves.
6) no
no
7) no
9) I think about a lot of things.
10) Last weekend I did the 48 Hour Film Project and made a 10 minute movie with a full crew on a crazy production schedule, which I had never done before… and this week I’m trying to make a DVD, which I have also never done before
Rand’s Friend Survey Worth Asking
blog^2 Rand has written a survey in response to a…
I answered most of the questions — you’re right. There are a couple I won’t go into detail or readily admit to in public, in writing.
Just too many damn secrets.
I like tulips?!! I didn’t know that I like tulips, I mean I don’t dislike them but that would never be my answer to “What’s your favorite flower?”. My answer would be, Redwood trees but I suppose they’re not really flowers.
And by the way I didn’t get any of those questions in your post….but hell, I’ll answer them anyway (cause i have a boring life so the answers won’t be that interesting)
# When the weekend comes, do you look forward to seeing everyone, or seeing absolutely no-one?
well, right at this moment, it’s a certain girl. in general, some people is the correct answer. from time to time, the certain person is actually Rand.
# What life change (different kind of work, new place to live, new people) would you most like to make if you weren’t absolutely terrified of doing it?
quit my job and work in a bicycle shop.
# How often do you steal? Yearly, monthly, or every damn day. (Cable, music, and computer software all count)
hardly ever. unless you count using the TiVO as stealing TV since I don’t watch the commercials. Someone at Turner said it was stealing, something about an unwritten and unspoken contract…which I think means I’m not legally required to watch commercials.
# Does holding a gun make you feel powerful, or scared?
don’t know, i’ve never held one. But it depends, do I have the best gun cause if I have a gun but someone has a bigger and better gun, then it’s kinda sucks.
# Is there anyone in this world whom you actively hate?
hmmmm…..actively hate…..hmmmm…..no. hate is such a powerful word. I don’t hate but I do dislike people the same way I dislike being sick. I can name two people however, who if they were about to fall of the cliff, I’d wait til hte last moment before I saved their miserable lives. That’s the extent of my hatred and I would only do something to save them because I would feel guilty about it later if I did nothing and let them die. If I could find a way to not feel guilty and …
Growing up as a kid, I was afraid I was going to grow up and become the anti-christ.
# Ever had any group-sex activities?
damn I wish the answer was yes. see, boring.
# Ever had any same-sex activities?
nope.
# Ever had any animal-sex activities?
nope.
# Ever thought about it?
animal-sex? in the millisecond before I go, “disgusting”.
# When did you last try something completely and totally new?
early this year when i went scuba diving.
wdf…this is really disturbing i think yall need 2 get a real life n not ask people for animal sex stuff
