So I’m trying to set up my Palm Tungsten T (yes, this is the last toy I’m going to get for a while), and the Bluetooth works flawlessly between the T and the PowerBook. Palm’s desktop software for OSX is OK. But the problem is, I can’t figure out how to transfer my old Plam V data to the new T. I’ve been taking regular backups of my Palm for the past 7 or 8 years; ever since I got the old Palm Pro, this T is actually only my third device in all that time! I’ve just been dumping them down to Linux though, no synchronization. So my Palm V cradle is hooked in to Linux through a serial port (which the Mac doesn’t have), and the Tungsten cradle only supports USB (which doesn’t work in my Win98 VMWare install on the Linux box). So….how to transfer the data!
Turns out that I was able to get a Keyspan USB Serial adaptor to setup a 9 pin serial port on the Palm (gonna need this for Unix Console access in the future), sync the Palm V down, hard reset the T, then upload the data back. Viola! I’m migrated! Lovely.
